Face-Palm Levels Of Wow When You See That Rich Kids Don't Even Need To Try

Personally, I love the idea of the hardscrabble American who works her way to the top using cunning and hard work to go to school and pull herself up by her own bootstraps to be successful. It's that sort of narrative that makes America cool to me.But that's why this chart is so awkward. It basically disproves that whole "yay America!" moment I just had up there. Turns out, the cards are stacked really high against those born into poorer homes. And for those who won the uterus lottery and were born into riches? Well, the cards are stacked in their favor.

This chart essentially means: "Rich high-school dropouts remain in the top fifth about as much as poor college grads stay stuck in the bottom."
