Singer Lauryn Hill wrote a song called "Black Rage" in 2012 but recently released it on music sharing site Soundcloud and dedicated it to the town of Ferguson. On her Tumblr, she writes: An old sketch of Black Rage, done in my living room. Strange, the course of things. Peace for MO.It's a reimagining of "My Favorite Things" from American classic movie "The Sound of Music," It's really stirring, as much as the original, but for totally different reasons.
Hearing one of her children in the background playing makes this song really hold some weight, doesn't it? In this context, "My Favorite Things" (a song about looking on the bright side of things) turns into looking at the reality for black people in America: That a bright side isn't really apparent right now. Hopefully it will be soon, for everyone's sake.
