How Long Would We Last If All Grocery Stores Ceased To Exist?

If ferries stopped running to this man's city, grocery shelves would likely be completely empty within three days. Similar issues exist in far too many communities all over the world. Isn't it time we start thinking about how to decrease our dependence on food shipments and supermarkets?
