But The Wild Things Cried, 'Please Don't Go. We'll Eat You Up. We Love You So.' — RIP Maurice Sendak
Maurice Sendak, author of Where The Wild Things Are, passed away today, May 8, 2012. He leaves behind a legacy of fighting for children, fighting for dissent, and fighting for books to roam wild and free. His work went from being banned to winning the Caldecott medal. In his personal life, Sendak was gay and had the same partner for 50 years. Revealing that he never told his parents, he said, "all I wanted was to be straight so my parents could be happy. They never, never, never knew."At least he made millions of others happy. RIP.The interview that most encapsulates his spirit is here for your feasting upon.
