She Confronted Her Bully And Asked One Question. Now The Bully Has An Awesome Story To Tell.

Sophia Bush Curator:

Every day we hear the horrible stories of young people being bullied. But rarely do we get to hear from ... drumroll please ... the bully herself. Listening to Mariah, I'm reminded of the amazing things that can happen when girls aren't afraid to share their stories, change their lives, and live with compassion and truth.

Mariah: She was bullied by me. I remember pushing her and calling her names, "annoying", "short", "likes to cause problems." She came up to me one day and she asked me, you know, "Why? Why, Mariah? Why? Why are you being such a bully to me?" And at that moment I realized, that it was because I was bullied myself. I had nobody to talk to and so I used that anger inside of me to take it out on other people.

That night, I had a dream and in it, was all the people that I bullied in middle school. And it was sort of like I was a ghost. In the dream, I felt like I was in the shoes of everyone I ever bullied. When she asked me that question, it made me want to ask her what was going on in her life. For the first time, I realized what the person I was bullying was going through. It made me realize that everyone is going through something and today, Jasmine and I are the bestest friends. She knows everything about me and I know everything about her. And it helped me heal from all the times that I have been bullied. She inspired me to dream up a new way of being. Thank you, Jasmine, for helping me be a dreamer.
