In high school, I plowed through cellphones. There was the thin flip phone, the tiny one shaped like an egg, the brick-shaped one with snap-on color plates, and one that *gasp* played music. Looking back, it was beyond excessive, but at the time each upgrade felt like a necessity. Given how the Internet reacts every time a new iPhone is announced, there are lots of people who feel the same way about the latest smartphones/tablets/computers.
