Walt Disney himself even shows up to say hello.
Filmmaker Jeff Altman shared footage he found that his grandfather shot in Disneyland back in 1956, just one year after the park opened.
There are familiar scenes in the footage shot on a Bell & Howell Filmo using 16mm Kodachrome film stock, but also moments that feel surreal, such as when Walt Disney himself shows up to shake the hand of Altman’s grandmother.
The footage stirred up all kinds of thoughts and feelings from viewers, some funny, others nostalgic and even some poignant observations like this one:

“The most amazing thing about this to me is seeing all of the empty land and orchards around the outside of the park. It's the whole reason he built the park there... but it's just crazy to see that much emptiness around Disneyland!”

“To add extra perspective. This was 56 years out from the end of the 1800's. We're now 62 years from when this was filmed. We think of the 50's being not that long ago but the 1800's were closer to this film date than we are.”
