One way the TSA scans us at airports is about to be tried in court.
If you're like me, you can't stand going through the security song and dance when trying to fly.
No, I don't want to take my clothes off to board the plane, and no, I really don't want to surrender my civil liberties in the name of what they call security.
I'd heard about the TSA's S.P.O.T. (Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques) program before and was aware that they were using it, but I had no idea how much it costs (over $1 billion) or that, scientifically, it's bunk.
Next time you go to the airport, stand in line and just TRY to not be nervous as you see TSA agents look at you to decide if you're sweating too much, or if you're just a wee bit too jumpy. Or have the wrong skin color.
The video from the ACLU is below, but if you're on a mobile device or want a quick summary of what this is all about, here ya go!
The TSA thinks it can. Only ... it's been proven not to work.
Yeah, like nobody at the airport is ever stressed or anything. Mmmhmm.
I don't see any chance of this going wrong. Nope. No way.
If they think you "look suspicious," they can prevent you from flying, hold you for questioning, and even refer you to the local police. Feel safer yet?!
Thing is, it's been scientifically proven to NOT work. But still ... the TSA keeps it funded.
Yup, you read that right. $1,000,000,000. So the American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit to end this sham.
