I Thought Pocahontas Was Bad, But Victoria’s Secret Takes The Prize For Most Inane Cultural Appropriation Ever
So, a model walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show runway in a floor-length American Indian war bonnet. Rightfully so, indigenous groups protested this act of cultural appropriation, and Victoria's Secret apologized for dressing up their model in an outfit sacred to many indigenous cultures. But this happens repeatedly in pop culture and fashion, and apologies aren't enough. American Indian women have been fetishized and sexualized in our culture, and I hope you'll join me in saying NO to companies that think it's okay to play dress-up with other cultures.
