In anticipation of International Women's Day 2015, people all over the world are taking to Twitter to promote Stand #UpForSchool.
This is a global petition demanding that international governments keep the promise made at the United Nations in 2000.
"We, the world's youth, teachers, parents and global citizens appeal to our governments to keep their promise, made at the United Nations in 2000, to ensure all out-of-school children gain their right to education before the end of 2015."
- According to UNESCO, 31 million elementary-school girls are being denied an education and 34 million middle-school girls are being denied access to education.
That's 65 million girls being denied this basic right.
- If all girls completed completed junior high, child marriages would go down by 66%.
- "If all women had a secondary education, 12 million children would be saved from stunting from malnutrition."
