In A Surprising Twist, I Respect Someone Raised By The Westboro Baptist Church

Libby Phelps Alvarez is the granddaughter of Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist Church, the infamous hate-preaching church. I couldn't even imagine being raised with such an extreme black-and-white outlook on life and then escaping it like she did.

Here, Phelps Alvarez speaks with Anderson Cooper about her experience with the organization. At about halfway through at 2:50, Cooper turns to the mother of a fallen soldier whose funeral Phelps Alvarez picketed with the church. Regardless of her past, how she's moving forward is so admirable.
