I admit, I feel a little overwhelmed thinking about what to say to my family and friends who have served in the military. I feel like I never know exactly what to say. I really don't want to offend anyone, so I usually say some cliche phrase — or worst yet, nothing at all. I know I'm not alone.

But, surprise! It's actually not that complicated.
