A 13-Year-Old Came Out To His Best Bro, And The Response Gave Me All The Feels

Sometimes, as we push for equality, the world can seem very slow-moving to respond. When I see things like this I’m reminded why we are working to conquer injustice and opening the door for younger generations to feel safe with who they are.

Below are screenshots of a conversation between a Twitter user’s 13-year-old brother and his best friend.

Coming out is really hard and can be really scary.

He wanted to come out but was worried he’d lose his best friend.

Figuring this stuff out can be hard! And you never know how people will react.

But his friend had the perfect response.

Of course sexual orientation wouldn’t get in the way of their friendship.

Right now I have all the feels in the world.

And my heart looks a little something like this:

No one hands us an owner’s manual to life when we’re born. We all do things at our own pace and comfort level. Coming out is a confusing process, and if someone feels like you are safe enough to talk to, there are some things you can do to make the coming out process easier for them. If someone comes out to you, just be cool, like this guy’s best friend. In fact, just be cool when someone trusts you with any personal information about themselves. Let’s keep making the world better, OK? 🙂

Sharing small victories like this one keeps moving us forward.
