At First, We Weren’t Convinced. But Then We Saw What This Woman Actually Does Every Day.

Meet Amelia. Some might call her a businesswoman (she went to business school after all) or even an entrepreneur. But the real story of what she does goes so much deeper.

In a perfect world, everyone would have access to healthy, affordable food options within walking distance of their home. Better yet, all these people would be able to take that food home and quickly and easily turn it into delicious and nutritious meals. In reality, that’s not the case.

According to a 2009 study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture,

“Of all U.S. households, 2.3 million, or 2.2 percent, live more than a mile from a supermarket and do not have access to a vehicle.”

These areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food are called “food deserts.” Amelia can’t fix food access issues singlehandedly, but she sure is on the right track.

In case you missed it, here’s one of my favorite parts of the video, where Amelia explains some of the basic principles behind My Street Grocery.
