The national parks system was created over 100 years ago by Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Franklin Roosevelt massively expanded them. Nearly every president since has added a little something to them. A volcano, say, or a redwood forest.

And now President Obama is taking that 100 years of investment and giving it away. Can I get an amen?

His speech is down below, but let me sum up:


Everglades National Park, dedicated in 1947 by Harry Truman


Mammoth Cave National Park, dedicated in 1941 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Arches National Park, dedicated in 1971 by Richard Nixon

Yellowstone National Park, dedicated in 1872 by Ulysses S. Grant
