She named her son after God, all because his birth went smoothly — much more than expected.

She knew women who had infections during childbirth. She didn’t — for one simple reason.

When Mary arrived at the hospital to give birth, she realized it was clean.

Now, many of us take clean hospitals for granted. But Mary lives in an area of Tanzania where many families don’t have easy access to clean environments.

Psst: Don’t know where Tanzania is? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back:

Before she gave birth to her first son, Mary felt ill.

“Two hours before my delivery, I felt so bad. I felt dizzy.” — Mary

The cause? Mary hadn’t been drinking clean water.

But in the grand scheme of things, Mary was pretty lucky.

“I know other women who’ve had problems in delivery due to lack of safe water. They got some infections due to the lack of water. Some of them had insufficient water during delivery.” — Mary

After her son’s birth went much more smoothly than she could have anticipated, Mary decided to give him a very special name.

It’s a simple yet endearing story. I hope you will think so, too.
