Here’s a piece of art (interactive art!) that Blake Fall-Conroy developed to call attention to just how low America’s federal minimum wage is. And how low is low? If you look at the graph of the minimum wage compared to average earnings below, the minimum wage line is the one that looks like it keeps running out of gas.
Which leads me to this proposal: The government should collect all unused pennies from our nation’s couch cushions and change jars, then put them into minimum wage machines to be distributed to every single unemployed person. Presto, $7.25 an hour for all who need it! You’re welcome, America.
