A bevy of famous ladies sing along to this 50-year-old classic. Wow. This song is magic.

I had never listened to Lesley Gore’s 1964 song “You Don’t Own Me” and thought of the power of women just saying that phrase together: “YOU. DON’T. OWN. ME.” Not to our special someones … but to our government. Until now! Dayum! Gauntlet thrown!

The ladies behind this magical mash-up of celebrity lady faces did. They were like, “This song is about dating, but also — it’s about rights!” (And therefore, it’s about VOTING.)

Try not to get choked up when it gets to the part where she says, “I don’t tell you what to do.” I’m a cheeseball, but I just think of the 50 years that ladies have been fighting for their rights, and I feel the feels.

Press “Play” and join me.

Let’s hear from Lesley herself.

I recorded “You Don’t Own Me” in 1964.

It’s hard for me to believe but we’re still fighting for the same things we were then.

Yes, ladies. We’ve got to come together.

Get out there and vote.

And protect our bodies.

They’re ours.

Please vote.

“Oh, I don’t tell you what to say
I don’t tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That’s all I ask of you.”
— Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me”

Consider this the easiest way you have to remind the ladies (and the cool dudes) in your life to vote every time they can! We’ve got sharey buttons for you to click on … if you want to.

And if you wanna see more stuff from this bevy of amazing ladies, you might wanna Like their Facebook page.

No pressure though. I don’t own you! 🙂
