One Teen Says A Brilliant Goodbye To All The Names He Was Called In School

Falling is what this student used to do. Soaring is what I’d call his performance here.

“Fallen”

by Vinny Borzumato

I’ve fallen many times.

I’ve fallen under labels,
but none of them are mine.
I’ve fallen under white.
I’ve fallen under weird.
I’ve fallen under gay.
I’ve fallen under queer.

But now I choose to rise,
shine like the brightest star.
I’m rising to this occasion,
I’m raising up the bar.
No longer am I losing, I’m finally choosing.
Throwing labels away, casting hurt astray.
So call me what they want, I will not do the same.

As for you,
you can call me Vinny,
because that is my only name.
