These photos are from “The Unknown Soldier” by David Jay, a series of photographs of young, severely wounded soldiers returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Regardless of whether you support these wars, I hope photos like these remind you to take a moment to remember the faces behind the headlines and statistics.
