Across America, a furious debate over who belongs in which restroom continues to rage.
It’s a debate that’s raised some hard questions.

Should states pass laws regulating who can pee where? How should those laws be enforced? Should ordinary Americans patrol public restrooms checking IDs? Would these bathroom vigilante squads be volunteer or would there be some kind of draft? Doesn’t confronting a perfect stranger in a restroom for no good reason immediately make you the weird one?
Meanwhile, trans people, most of whom just want to be left alone to pee in peace, wait patiently while America makes up its mind.
Thankfully, Cyndi Lauper, Harvey Fierstein, and the cast of the Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” just recorded a fantastic music video with some sage advice:

Personally, when I’m in a bathroom stall, I’m not … terribly focused on what anyone else is doing — quite the opposite, actually; please don’t tell me what you’re doing adjacent to me in the bathroom — much less what gender they are or what their genitalia looks like.
Call me ridiculous, but I don’t think I’m alone here.
Despite claims to the contrary, no one is getting hurt by laws that protect trans people’s right to use the bathroom that reflects their gender identity.

The number of sexual predators who have taken advantage of anti-trans discrimination laws to prey on people in bathrooms is virtually zero.
Male, female, genderqueer, transgender — we all want the same thing.
To be able to pee without nosy people telling us we’re doing it wrong.
With any luck, America’s legislators will start to get the message.
