I'm not sensationalizing when I say this mom's Facebook post is one of the most difficult things I've ever read.

I've written about the Syrian refugee crisis and cried my way through people's stories. I've written about the active shooter drill generation and felt the galling weight of America's gun violence problem.

But I'm struggling to write this story because I can barely digest what I've read.

In the House of Representatives on May 21, the 10 names of those who lost their lives in the Santa Fe, Texas, high school shooting were read aloud, and Republican Rep. Randy Weber requested a moment of silence for the victims in his district.

The instant the gavel banged to end the moment, Watson Coleman — a New Jersey Democrat who's been staunchly in favor of stronger gun laws — began yelling, her voice filling the quiet chamber.

Texas has a reputation as a gun-totin', gun-lovin' state — and for good reason.

The Lone Star State has more licensed firearm dealers than any other state in addition to some of the loosest gun laws in the nation. The National Rifle Association held its 2018 annual convention in Dallas, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has publicly stated, "I will sign whatever legislation reaches my desk that expands Second Amendment rights in Texas."

But not all Texans are opposed to reasonable gun legislation.
