Some words need to be “retired” from our language. Here’s my #1 choice.

When we choose to “use our words,” there’s one that is a go-to for many people. I hear it when I’m out and about in society. Not among my coworkers or good friends, which is a blessing. But among many others.

People need to be called out when they use this word because it’s discrimination. It can mean any number of things that translate to “less than” or other than human. It’s usually used as a straight-up insult.

So think hard next time you’re tempted to use it, or you hear somebody you love say the word. Try to find a better one, please; our language has tons.

And if you can’t think of any, try finding some alternatives.
