I started writing after a chronic neuromuscular diagnosis in 2012. I woke up one day and suddenly needed a cane and a pair of eyeglasses to navigate the world. This life change inspired me to ask why eyeglasses are fashionable when all other assistive devices are stigmatizing. I now write about and advocate for a concept I call “inclusive retail.” I urge mainstream retailers to make products for and market to everybody. My blog is The Girl With the Purple Cane.
