Young, Innocent Boys. A Simple Question. And I’m Devastated.

How many have to die before this is considered a serious national problem?

Today’s young men of color know that they are targets much more frequently than others. They could be Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown or Tamir Rice … the list just goes on and on. How many have to die before this is considered a serious national problem?

When you look at the underlying reasons these things happen more frequently to youth of color than to any other young people, there’s a common theme: fear.

A collaboration between Rootstrong and filmmaker Kiri Laurel Davis (more about them below the clips), this video shows some of those kids illustrating what it’s like to constantly wear a target. It was filmed in Harlem, New York City, and over 30 African-American and Latino boys from ages 3 to 17 participated and took a stand against racial targeting of kids like them. The most important part comes at 1:40.
