On National Thank a Police Officer Day, TV host W. Kamau Bell decided to ask folks in New York City about their feelings toward police. In a city where stop and frisk exists, a policy allowing NYC police officers to check pedestrians for weapons, etc., has been enforced on half a million people every year, and nine out of 10 of them did nothing wrong ... well, you can imagine how the other nine feel. Especially when minorities disproportionately are the recipients of this policy. I think what happens at 4:30 is kinda amazing.
Stop and frisk is not in every city, and all cops are not bad. There are some amazing police officers and some truly monstrous ones. But in New York City, stop and frisk has been the subject of a ton of controversy, and when bad cops and bad policies align, this is what comes back.
